GP Leadership in Obesity and Weight Management (GLOW) Programme

Apply to join the 2022 GLOW programme cohort and become a leader in obesity and weight management in general practice.

The GLOW programme is a collaborative working project that has been developed and funded by and between Novo Nordisk Limited and the Royal College of General Practitioners.

GLOW aims to improve knowledge and understanding of obesity as a condition, and weight management services in general practice and primary care. An expert faculty team will mentor a cohort of up to 20 general practitioners who have a desire to become an expert in the field of obesity and to drive improvement in the care of people living with obesity. The programme will play a key role in building a network of support and information for the participants, to share their learning and understanding of obesity, and support each other outside of the course. This will be encouraged via an online networking platform and by bringing participants together regularly.

GLOW will develop a cohort of UK-based GPs’ expertise in obesity and healthy weight management and related health issues through a nine-month, four module programme of education and network development between January 2022 – September 2022 inclusive.

The aim of this programme is to enhance care for people with obesity by creating leaders in the management of obesity in primary care who will work to drive change and improvements in this area. During and after the programme, as obesity experts they will provide leadership and high-quality clinical guidance to their colleagues and networks, thereby ensuring key learnings and insights drive improvements in the management of obesity across the country.

The course will be a combination of online and face-to-face. One module is a two-day overnight residential leadership training in early February 2022 and another involves attendance at a scientific obesity conference during the programme (depending on COVID-19 restrictions).
